Activity 2.2.1 - My daily water use

My Three Water Bills

From May 25th - June 25th my household used up to 7,674 gallons of water. From June 25th - July 25th my household used up to 7,481 gallons of water. Lastly from July 25th - August 25th, we used the same amount as the previous month 7,481 gallons of water. To average the amount of gallons my household used every month we will add all the numbers and then divide them by how many months we are looking at.

Average and Per-Person Usage

Now I will add all the numbers and then divide them by how many months we are looking at to find the average water usage per month.
7,674 + 7,481 + 7,481 = 22636/3 = 7,545 gallons/ month on average

Next, we are looking for the average use per month for everyone in my household. In my case, it would be five people. I am using the month-on-average number and dividing that by how many people are in my home.
7,545/5 = 1,509 gallons/person/month

After that, we will divide the "gallons/person/month" number by 30 days to get the per person/ per day amount.
1,509/30 = 50 gallons per day

According to Statistics and Facts US EPA, the average person in the United States would use about 82 gallons a day of water at home. According to my calculations, my household is under that statistic at fifty gallons a day per person. I used my household's last three months of water bills and averaged out the number of gallons the people in my home, including myself, use each month. Which came out to be a little over 7.5 thousand gallons a month on average. With that number, I was able to calculate how much water each person individually uses each month. Which came out to be about 1.5 thousand gallons of water. Lastly, I divided the previous number by thirty to find out how many gallons of water each person used each day of the month. That came out to about 50 gallons per day for every person in the house. After I did my own calculations I went online to find household water calculators. Each Calculator had slightly different questions and answers. The calculator that I believe was the best was the People TAMU water consumption Calculator. The questions were easy to answer and the feedback was easy to understand. The answers I received back from the calculator were also the closest to the calculations I had done prior. Although the other calculators did ask more in-depth questions. Unfortunately, I did not have all my resources to get accurate answers for some of them, but I made educated guesses. If I did have all the resources I would say the best one to use would be the Smart Water Calculator. That website provided good questions about your water use for each part of your home that could provide you with a better understanding of where exactly you have the most water use. Overall this was a great project to help individuals and myself with how much water we are actually using day to day.
